Malaysia has implemented Phase 1 Self-Assessment System for stamp duty effective from January 1, 2026. This new regime shifting responsibility from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) to the duty payers requiring taxpayers and businesses to independently calculate, declare, and pay their stamp duty obligations for various types of instruments and agreement. Understanding the legal requirements and processes is crucial to stay compliant.
