A recap of our Mastering Transfer Pricing Documentation training in Kuantan, covering TPD, Schedule 1, benchmarking and the latest LHDN updates.
Two Days of Transfer Pricing in Kuantan: What We Covered and What Participants Brought to the Table
On 17 and 18 September 2026, we held our first public Transfer Pricing training in Kuantan, Mastering Transfer Pricing Documentation: Compliance & Strategies to Prepare TPD & Schedule 1, at Swiss-Belhotel Kuantan.
It was a full two days of discussion, questions and real-world experience. Participants came from different industries and different levels of management, from Executives and Managers to Heads of Departments and Directors. That mix made the sessions richer, because everyone looked at the same rules from a different seat in their organisation.
More than "what are the rules?"
Transfer pricing is a technical area, and even experienced finance and tax professionals find parts of it challenging. Malaysia's landscape has also changed significantly with the Transfer Pricing Rules 2023, the Transfer Pricing Guidelines 2024 and the TP Tax Audit Framework 2025.
So the training went beyond asking what the rules say. Led by our trainer Alycia Lee Mie Sin, we looked at how those rules apply to a group's own related-party transactions, and at the practical challenges companies face in managing, documenting and supporting their transfer pricing positions.
What we covered
Day 1: Building the foundation
The fundamentals of transfer pricing, controlled transactions and who counts as "associated persons" Compliance requirements, thresholds and exemptions from preparing a TPD The powers of the DGIR and the penalties for non-compliance The five main elements to understand before determining an arm's length price, including functional analysis (FAR) Transfer pricing methods and selecting the appropriate Profit Level Indicator
Day 2: Putting it into practice
Calculating arm's length ranges and interpreting benchmarking results Internal versus external comparables, and what LHDN prefers A step-by-step walk through the benchmarking process How to prepare a defensible TPD, and the essentials of Full and Minimum TPD How Schedule 1 differs from a TPD, and how to prepare it
Participants also received two bonus sessions: the latest updates shared at the LHDN Transfer Pricing Seminar (August 2026) and the new MTFIL Guidelines 2026, so they left with current regulatory developments as well as the core curriculum.
Why every group's situation is different
One thing came through clearly in the discussions: every group is different. Each business has its own transactions, structures and circumstances, which is why transfer pricing needs both technical understanding and practical judgement. Participants brought real scenarios from their own organisations, and those conversations were some of the most valuable parts of the two days.
